Chelsea boss Lampard confirms Frenchman Olivier Giroud likely to leave even without replacemen. Read on to see reasons with him.
– Olivier Giroud is a target for both Inter Milan and Tottenham this transfer window
– The Frenchman wants to leave Stamford Bridge having being relegated to the bench
Frank Lampard reveals Chelsea might sell the forward even without signing a replacement Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has ‘probably’ revealed that Olivier Giroud is not in his plans going forward as the coach of the club. The Frenchman has made just six appearances across competitions for the Blues under the former England midfielder at Stanford Bridge so far this campaign. And there are no assurances the 33-year-old will get any more playing time at the club if he remains there with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi preferred above him. Though reports claim Giroud has agreed to reunite with his former boss Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, Lampard claims he has no knowledge of that at the moment.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is also considering making a move for the 2018 World Cup winner since Harry Kane has been ruled out for until later this season. “There are a lot of things in football and the squad that are a risk, otherwise you would line up three or four of the best players in each position,” said Lampard.
“We have some adaptable players in our team who could take up different roles, so that would have to come into my thinking at that point. “That’s my job, I’m going into it now. I have to make those decisions as I go along says Lampard.
“I also have to think about the make-up of the squad, the spirit of the squad and I also have a human level where I look at people and players, how they are, how they train and how the squad could be affected in lots of different ways. 2 Premier League clubs chase Super Eagles star after impressive performances “Ollie (Giroud) has been great as well and I respect him for that, and that slightly comes into my thinking as well. “The club will always come first. If I feel the decision to keep everybody in the January window, that will be my decision too. “Nothing is done yet so we can probably broach these questions if and when something is done. “Everyone’s talking about it (a possible Giroud transfer) so I’m not going to beat around the bush. I think his agent has spoken to the club, but until anything’s done he’s a Chelsea player.” Abraham has 12 goals and three assists in 20 Premier League appearances – reasons Lampard feels comfortable ditching the player who helped the club win Europa League last campaign.
